Srinagar: SK institute of medical sciences (SKIMS) while\ngiving good news has said that its doctors have succeeded in a rare Bone Marrow\nTransplant. The procedure was done on a patient of Refractory Blood Cancer from\nBaramullah who received the required donation from his own brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Javid Rasool Bhat, Prof. & Head Clinical Haematology\nDepartment, informed that a 30 year-old- male from Baramulla was diagnosed as\nAcute Myeloid Leukemia in August 2020 in the Department of Clinical\nHaematology. He was given high dose chemotherapy but his disease persisted. So\nhe was given two more cycles of high dose chemotherapy after which his disease\nwas controlled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In view of refractory\nBlood Cancer he was explained that only curative treatment option for him was\nStem Cell Transplantation. \u201cFortunately, his brother\u2019s bone marrow stem cells\nwere found to be matching so the patient was taken for Allogenic matched sibling\ntransplant on 05\/02\/2021\u201d Dr Bhat said and added that the patient is doing well\nand is on regular follow-up. He said that this will raise hope for poor and\ndeserving patients of Blood Cancer who need Bone Marrow Transplant, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Director SKIMS, Dr. AG Ahangar lauded the Department of\nClinical Haematology and appreciated them for conducting these rare transplants\nwhich is benefitting poor patients. He said SKIMS has always taken a lead for\nconducting rare procedures and contributing in providing best patient care\nservices to poor people who otherwise had to go outside for such procedures\ninvolving huge expenses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
